West J Senior Wins Johnston County Poetry Out Loud Title

Colin Beard captured the JCPS Poetry Out Loud title at the county competition on Janury 9, 2020.  He competed against three other students from high schools around the county.

Colin previously won the WJHS Poetry Out Loud competition with recitations of “The World is Too Much With Us” by William Wordsworth and “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” by Langston Hughes.  He competed with these same titles at the county competition.

He will compete again on February 22, 2020, in the state competition.  This is the fourth year in a row that a West Johnston student has been chosen as Johnston County's representative at the state Poetry Out Loud competition.
