West Johnston Journalists Capture State Honors

The Student Media program at West Johnston High School took home 18 awards, including every individual student honor presented in the broadcast news field, from the N.C. Student Media Institute.

The intensive workshop for student journalists was held on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus June 17-20. It culminated with an awards ceremony that recognized the best work of North Carolina’s high school journalists over the past school year.

West Johnston’s yearbook, “The Prowler,” and its weekly news broadcast, “Wildcat News,” both earned ratings of Distinction, placing them among the top high school media products in the state.

In individual competition, West Johnston’s broadcast journalists swept the statewide field, taking all 11 awards that were presented:
