Mr. West J Pageant Wows West!

On Friday, February 22, 2019, junior Kyle Denning was crowned the new Mr. West J for 2019.  Hosted by West Johnston's FBLA and DECA organizations to raise funds for state and national competitions, the Mr. West J pageant has become a school spirit tradition at West Johnston High School.  Male representation from each of the school's athletic teams and clubs compete for the coveted title of "Mr. West J."  In true pageant style, the competition includes casual wear, sportswear, talent, evening wear, and the  interview categories, all of which are scored by a panel of judges. The pageant winner is awarded a monetary donation to the school program he represents. This year West Johnston had 13 motivated contestants who did a fantastic job representing their school programs.  This diverse panel of judges evaluating the contestants included Mr. Ronald Johnson (School Board Member), Rena Keith (School Counselor), Jeremy Stephenson (West Alumni), Nicole Lonesky (West Alumni and Miss Campbell 2018), and Abby Britt (West Alumni, Miss West Johnston 2014, Miss Johnston County 2018, Miss Fayetteville 2019).
The top five contestants were Wyatt Ford, representing Baseball; Charlton McCullough, representing Football; Justin Wood, representing FFA; David Reed Johnson, representing Golf; and Kyle Denning, representing the National Honor Society.
In addition to an overall winner, competitors also receive individual awards:
Mr. Congeniality, Best Smile, and 1st Runner Up went to Wyatt Ford, representing Baseball.
People's Choice and Most Photogenic went to Justin Wood, representing FFA.
Most Dedicated went to David Reed Johnson, representing Golf.
Best Talent and Best Legs went to Julian Clark, representing Track and Cross Country.
Overall Winner and Mr. West J 2019 were awarded to Kyle Denning, representing National Honor Society
Kyle Denning will represent West Johnston in multiple community events this year. He has already made one appearance at the  Mr. South Johnston pageant, and is scheduled to read at West View Elementary on March 1 for Read Across America Week. Congratulations Kyle!
