Principal's Message

Good evening !  This is Laura Makey, principal of South Smithfield Elementary School. It is with a saddened heart that I accept the governor’s decision to close school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  Although sad, I do support the governor’s decision as we must address the health and  safety of our staff and students.

School may be closed but learning for our dynamic dolphins is not!  Our teachers remain committed to providing learning opportunities for your students until the end of May as we still value the importance of continued academic experiences. I know that there are several questions about how the end of the year will evolve for our students.  As answers to the questions unfold, I will continue to update you.

As stated, remote learning opportunities are still being provided for your students and are important.  Please connect with your teacher on Class DoJo and visit the district web page weekly for access to our school’s online learning .

For students without access to online material and need learning packets for continued learning, please listen carefully. Packets for the upcoming week’s lesson will be available each Monday, starting this Monday, April 27th. Weekly packet pick-up will be available from 9-12. Come to the front and ring the doorbell and a packet will be brought to you.  If you are unable to come during this time, please email your teacher.  Your teacher will let me know you are coming and a packet will be left at the front for pickup at your convenience.  If your student needs their Into Reading or Investigations book, notify your teacher and these items can be arranged for pick-up as well.

Remember for those families needing wifi access,  wifi can be accessed in our school parking lot. Parents are welcome to park and use the free wifi while maintaining social distancing.  LifeSpring . located next to the old Office Max,  has also graciously provided their parking lot for free Wifi use. The username and password for their lot  will be provided to you by your teacher if requested.

If you have any questions or if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. We love and miss you Dynamic Dolphins. Stay safe. Stay well. Have a good evening.
