SSS AVID Students Raise College Awareness

Students at Smithfield-Selma High School (SSS) got an early start with College Application Week on October 15, 2019.

Student members of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) prepared display boards showcasing public and private colleges in North Carolina and out-of-state.  Classroom teachers were invited to escort their classes to the AVID College Fair's venue so that they could see the student-created college displays and interact with the AVID students who made them.

The College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) holds College Application Week from October 21st to October 25th.  During this time period, many colleges waive their application fees.  Seniors were called down to the SSS Media Center so that school counselors could help them with completing college applications.  SSS also held a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) night on October 17th.

Students and parents who want more information about applying for college are encouraged to contact the SSS College Coach, Tia Kelley.
