Teachers Achieve Victory in Close Basketball Game with Students
On February 15, 2019, visiting eighth graders from local middle schools witnessed an annual tradition at Smithfield-Selma High School (SSS): the Student-Faculty Basketball Game. This annual rivalry seethes with competition as both the teachers and the students demonstrate athletic prowess.
Although the teachers emerged victorious with a score of 38-35, the student team played an outstanding game, coming close to overtaking the teachers in the final minute. However, this event is about more than competition; it's about building a strong relationship between teachers, students, and the entire community.
The players received a break when the Unified teams emerged onto the court. The onlookers gave cheers of unanimous support as these students demonstrated their basketball skills.
The eighth grade visitors also got a special treat when the SSS Spartan Thunder performed in their half-time show, Enter the Dragon. This stunning performance, written and designed by SSS Teacher assistant Justin Holmes, includes an amazing drumline and show performed by the SSS band students. The public will have an opportunity to appreciate this performance for themselves during Percussion Theater held in the SSS Auditorium on May 9-11.
