Anne Frank Exhibit Comes to SmMS

JCPS and the University of South Carolina's Anne Frank Center brought the Anne Frank exhibit to Smithfield Middle. The exhibit brings to life the story of the young Jewish girl who – in the pages of her world-renowned diary – documented two years of hiding in German-occupied Amsterdam during World War II.

Student docents trained one weekend to set up the exhibit and then to escort students through the exhibit and answer questions about Anne Frank's life. The student docents for Smithfield Middle were Emily Flores Ortiz, Joely Hernandez, Elsy Hernandez, Ayonna Best, and Daniela Carino.

The Center hopes that by sharing Anne's legacy, students and teachers will inspire them to never be bystanders but instead to stand up together against antisemitism, bigotry, and inequality wherever it may exist today.
