Last week, the Men of Distinction male mentoring program had their third whole group meeting. The Men of Distinction is comprised of four JCPS Administrators serving as mentors to seven Selma Elementary School students serving as mentees. The goal of this brand new program is to provide academic and social support to the selected male students by matching them with a positive, male role model from our community. It is our hope that the participation in the program will not only allow these students to form a relationship with an adult outside of their classroom, but that it will also increase their academic confidence, as well. The mentors and mentees meet as a whole group once a month for team and relationship building activities, but the mentors also visit their mentors frequently throughout each month to check in on the students and their academic progress and personal goals.
