Riverwood Middle student Sarah Fuccello will compete in the National Spelling Bee after being the first place winner of the 2019 Johnston County Middle School Spelling Bee.
Students from 13 of the JCPS middle schools participated in the Spelling Bee held at Selma Elementary. Students from other schools in Johnston County also participated in the county-wide event.
Fuccello was named the winner of the Spelling Bee in the 63rd round after spelling the word “opossum.” She was coached by Riverwood Middle teacher Caroline Daily.
Fuccello will now go on to compete in the National Spelling Bee from May 26-30 at Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.
