2022 Summer Information Fair Dates Set

Johnston County Public Schools is always striving to provide students and families with exemplary service. In most cases, school bus transportation is essential for many students to access a quality education. In order to meet our daily goal, it is necessary to implement change that enhances and improves our overall operation. As we prepare for the 2022-2023 school year, JCPS Transportation Services and School Nutrition will be hosting a Summer Information Fair at each high school. The information fair will provide parents an opportunity to request, verify, and ensure your child has bus transportation and a meal service plan prior to the opening of school. The summer information fairs will be held on August 1st and 2nd from 1 PM to 7 PM. Please see below for dates and locations.

  • Princeton HS (Cafeteria)

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022

  • Clayton HS (Cafeteria)
  • Smithfield-Selma HS (Cafeteria)
  • South Johnston HS (Cafeteria)
  • West Johnston HS (Cafeteria)

Transportation Services: 

Students that are assigned to a bus as of the last day of school do not need to attend this event. Students with a bus assignment on the last day of the 21-22 school year will continue to receive bus transportation for next school year. Transportation is encouraging all families to visit the summer session if you have moved to a different address, if you are a newly enrolled to the school district, or if your child did not ride a 

bus during the 21-22 school year and bus transportation is desired for next school year. Also, we highly recommend any student that no longer needs transportation to attend the information fair to share this change in their transportation needs. 

Families that are unable to attend this event will need to contact their school data manager to request transportation. All eligible applicants are assured to have transportation services on the first day of school for the 22-23 school year. Students' bus assignment information will be distributed by the school during your child’s open house event. Bus assignment information will also be available in the PowerSchool parent portal as well as the Here Comes the Bus app.

School Nutrition Services:

The Federally-assisted school nutrition programs help ensure all students have access to wholesome, nutritious, appealing meals at school. Access to healthy meals at school can enhance students’ overall health and academic performance. Children who are hungry or poorly nourished have difficulty learning and do not perform as well in the classroom as students who are well-nourished. 

Families will have an opportunity to apply for meal benefits while on site. The information provided on the application for free and reduced-price meal benefits will be used to determine student’s eligibility for free or reduced-price meals. You, your children, or other household members do not have to be U.S. citizens to apply for free or reduced-price meals. Information is confidential. Eligibility statuses are not shared with any individuals outside of the school nutrition program. Families must reapply for meal benefits each academic calendar year. 

Households unable to attend the event may apply online for free or reduced-price meals by visiting the application link when the 2022-2023 application is released. Paper applications will always be made available throughout ALL Johnston County Public Schools and the School Nutrition Office located at 601-C West Market Street in Smithfield, or call 919-934-1304 ext 7009 to have one mailed to you.

Healthy meals at school, coupled with a safe, student-focused learning environment, are top priorities in Johnston County Public Schools because they help prepare students for success.
