Confirmed COVID 19 Case At School

February 4, 2021

Dear Riverwood Middle School Families,

Today we were notified by the Johnston County Public Health Department of a positive case of COVID-19 within our school. on our campus from Cohort A. The individual has not been on campus since Monday, February 1st. Based on the specific circumstances of this positive case, our school will remain open. Deep cleaning and disinfecting have already been done and will continue routinely.

Please know the individual will self-isolate in their place of residence until the following are met:
The individual has not had a fever (temperature greater than 100.4 degrees) for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
Symptoms have improved (for example, cough, and shortness of breath).
At least 10 days have passed since the first symptoms appeared or since being tested.

The Johnston County Public Health Department will lead the contact investigation. Individuals identified as close contacts will be contacted by the public health department. If an individual is not contacted by the public health department, the individual was not considered to be a close contact.
Close contact is defined by the CDC as, “anyone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 48 hours before the person began feeling sick until the time the patient was isolated.”

While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, we ask that you, as always, continue to watch for symptoms of COVID-19 and communicate with your doctor and/or visit

We will continue to closely monitor this situation and will provide additional information as needed. If you have questions, please contact our school office at 919-359-2769.

Thank you for your support as we work to keep everyone safe.
