JCPS Middle School Champions!

On Friday, February 24th,  the NJMS Battle of the Books team matched their reading strength against all other JCPS middle schools in the annual district Battle of the Books competition. Using teamwork and precision, our Jaguar readers battled 13 middle schools from across the district, consistently leading the 12- round competition after the 5th round.  We are so proud of our students!

To prepare for  the virtual competition, the team read a list of 16 books selected by the North Carolina School Library Media Association. They independently read 43,270 pages and practiced together for over 45 hours, answering hundreds of questions about the books.

Competing for NJMS were 7th graders Yamilet Abarca-Hernandez, Madison Brock, Mikayla Brown, Savannah Creech, Bella Key, Dalton Langston, McKenna Swann, Jaycie Yarber, and 6th graders Avery Hinnant, Claire Kornegay and Zachary Stanley. Alternate players were 6th graders. Carolyn Carreno Rodriguez and Ella Williams.  Serving in valuable roles as our team's student managers were 8th graders  Nelly Carbajal Ochoa and Mya Pagan, and 6th grader Robby Woods.

Mrs. Pettigrew would like to thank all of the parents and teachers for their support of the 2022-23 BOB team! A special shout out to Mrs. Hoy for assisting the team with practices and operating technology for the day, Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Langston for assisting  with coordination of Jag time practices, and the NJMS Admin team for their unwavering support.
