Our teachers are continually looking for opportunities and resources to engage students through dynamic learning activities. Our Agricultural Science teacher Mrs. Karen Spivey recently applied for and received a Bright Ideas Education Grant from South River Electric Membership Corporation in the amount of $2,000 to purchase “breakout box" kits for interactive classroom lessons. She expects that students will literally "unlock their learning" as they collaborate to solve riddles, crack codes, and gather clues.
Mrs. Spivey will also accept a $500 grant from NC Ag in the Classroom program at the Johnston County Farm Bureau board meeting on January 30. These funds will be used to purchase materials to construct an elevated 4' x 8' raised garden in our school courtyard, providing hands-on plant science experience for her students and FFA members.
