These four JCECA students, along with their seven other teammates, won the NC FIRST State Championship Rookie All-Star Award on April 2, 2023 at East Carolina University. The award recognizes a rookie robotics team's young but strong partnership effort, as well as inspiring students to learn about science and technology. The team has volunteered more than 1,350 hours in the community and has several STEM outreach initiatives to inspire and encourage younger girls in STEM. The team will travel to Texas to compete against 600 teams from around the world, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, France, Turkey, Australia and more.
In addition, Kaitlyn Nolte, a 10th grader at JCECA, was selected from more than 60 semi-finalists as the state's Dean's List Finalist. The award is presented to two state finalists for their academic excellence, leadership, outreach and furtherance of FIRST principles and mission in STEM. Nolte will advance to compete at the global level.
