Corinth Holders FFA Chapter Named 2021 Premier Chapter: Strengthening Agriculture and 3-Star Chapter
INDIANAPOLIS (October, 29 2021/National FFA Organization) –
The Corinth Holders FFA Chapter of North Carolina was named 2021 Premier Chapter: Strengthening Agriculture on Friday, Oct. 29, during the sixth general session of the 94th National FFA Convention & Expo this year, held in Indianapolis. Corinth Holders FFA worked with local Pace Family Farms to create the Treat of Agriculture Trail. The Halloween activity in 2020 served as a safer alternative to trick-or-treating during the global pandemic. Participants and their families were encouraged to dress in costumes as they walked along the commodity-themed trail to learn about agriculture and receive commodity-related treats. Seven commodity groups and eight local agribusinesses participated in the event.
The National Chapter Award program recognizes outstanding FFA chapters that actively implement the organization’s mission and strategies. These chapters improve chapter operations using the National Quality FFA Chapter Standards and a Program of Activities that emphasizes growing leaders, building communities, and strengthening agriculture. Chapters are rewarded for providing educational experiences for the entire membership. National FFA recognizes the top chapters with innovative activities in each of the three divisions: growing leaders, building communities and strengthening agriculture. Chapters that receive three-star ratings during judging are eligible to compete for the premier chapter awards. Ten FFA chapters competed for the honor.
Members hosted the original event, October 31st, 2020 and submitted it for judging in April 2021. Emily Oberman and Gralin Byrd interviewed for the Premier Chapter division on September 28th, 2021 after being named a finalist in August.
Corinth Holders just hosted the 2nd Treat of Agriculture Trail Saturday, October 30th with 530 participants and 106 student and parent volunteers “Feeding some 9 billion people by mid-century brings with it unprecedented challenges for today’s farmers,” said Amy Allen, manager, national corporate contributions for John Deere. “The skills and experiences learned though the National Chapter Award Program will help meet the critical needs.” John Deere sponsors the National Chapter Award program. Annabelle the cow was a huge hit among youth of all ages! Students had the opportunity to share about where our milk comes from, while youth got to practice their skills on how to properly milk a cow. In addition, students got to share their knowledge about other livestock, plants, NC Commodities and tractors provided by B&S Enterprise. Students worked with youth and parents promoting our program and sharing their knowledge.
