On Friday, January 6th, Cooper Academy was proud to welcome Coach Thomas Whitmeyer-Weather, a Youth & Amateur Hockey Specialist from the Carolina Hurricanes Hockey Club to facilitate the Canes In-School Program with our students. The Carolina Hurricanes offer in-school programs to equip students with basic hockey game-play knowledge and fundamental skill instruction (stick handling, stationary passing, controlling the ball, and using your body to shield the ball from opponents). The program donates all the equipment for the clinics to the school which includes youth hockey sticks, balls, goals, and Canes pinnies. An emphasis was placed on teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership during the training session. The students at Cooper Academy enjoyed learning news skills for a sport we can continue to practice during physical education class. Thank you to Coach Whitmeyer-Weathers and the Carolina Hurricanes organization for providing this opportunity for our students!
