Clayton High School DECA Competes

Clayton High School’s DECA chapter recently competed at the 78th North Carolina DECA Career Development Conference. Thirty eight student members participated in various competitive events ranging from apparel and accessories marketing, sports marketing, retail merchandising, travel and tourism, and written project presentations. 

 

This year’s overall winners are Gwen Digby, 1st place in Hotel and Lodging Management, Brianna Moreira, 4th place in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling, Joanna Fowkes, 5th place in Integrated Marketing Campaign- Services, Sabrina Coffaro, 6th place in Restaurant and Food Service Management, Eva Long, 7th place in Marketing Communications, and Grace Lien and Megan Storey, 10th place in Hospitality Services Team.  

 

Other winners received recognition for having high roleplay scores and high test scores. Winners included: Anna Claire Mitchell, high roleplay in Human Resource Management, Andrew Raggio, high test score in Marketing Management Team and Will Strickland, high test score in Marketing Management Team. 

 

Each year approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete for local and regional titles. The competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development. The top state and provincial winners put their talents to the test during the program’s final round of competition which will be held this year in Atlanta. The DECA International Career Development Conference is the pinnacle of competition where nearly 10,000 students vie for international honors. Nearly $500,000 in scholarships and awards are presented to students and teachers for their achievements. 

 

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition.
