Clayton High School DECA Competes At DECA State Career Development Conference
Clayton High School’s DECA chapter recently competed at the 76th North Carolina DECA Career Development Conference. Fifty two student members participated in various competitive events ranging from apparel and accessories marketing, sports marketing, retail merchandising, travel and tourism, and written project presentations.
This year the chapter had 21 overall winners which include Grace Amigh and Rebecca Jenkins 2nd Place in Career Development Project, Kailey Lynch and Lillie Martin 3rd Place in Financial Literacy Project, Lilly Airington 7th Place in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Operations, Eli Hill 5th place in Business Growth Plan, Karley Blackburn and Grayson Johnson 8th place in Buying and Merchandising Team, Amaria Faison and Sion Hargrove 8th place in Franchise Business Plan, Erica Burke and Willow Stone 8th place in Travel and Tourism Marketing Team, Taylor Holzshu 4th Place in Financial Consulting, Jaiden Dreyer and Avery Williams 3rd Place in Financial Services Team Decision Making, Nick Guy 4th Place in Human Resource Management, Reyna Harper 9th place in Human Resource Management, Davis Spradling 10th Place in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling, Najee Tidmore 6th Place in Integrated Marketing Campaign Product, Gwen Digby 8th Place in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, and Sarah Colborn 10th Place in Quick Service Restaurant Management.
Each year approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete for local and regional titles. The competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development. The top state and provincial winners put their talents to the test during the program’s final round of competition which will be held this year in Nashville. The DECA International Career Development Conference is the pinnacle of competition where nearly 10,000 students vie for international honors. Nearly $500,000 in scholarships and awards are presented to students and teachers for their achievements.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition.
