Clayton High Student attends Tar Heel Boys State

Clayton High School Senior, Adam Souter, attended The 80th Session of the 2019 Tar Heel Boys State Program which was held June 16-22, 2019 at Catawba College.  Tar Heel Boys’ State is a leadership program where participants learn today to lead tomorrow. Local American Legion Posts select high school juniors to attend the program. Tar Heel Boys’ State is sponsored by The American Legion Department of North Carolina. It is an intense workshop concentrating on North Carolina state government and politics. Some 500 rising high school seniors representing all geographic areas of North Carolina participate annually in this program. Young
Men with outstanding qualities of Leadership, Character, Scholarship, Loyalty and Service to their schools and communities are delegates to Tar Heel Boys State. 

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students.  At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.  Participants also hear major leaders in state government speak in special sessions.
