CHS DECA Raises $2400 for the American Heart Association at Color Run Event

Clayton High School’s DECA chapter recently hosted the first Clayton Color
Run and Heart Chase on Saturday, November 10 th at the East Clayton Community Park. The
event had over 60 participants and 25 volunteers from the school’s DECA, FCCLA, and
HOSA chapters. Participants were able to take part in several heart healthy activities as
part of the Heart Chase. Activities included stations about healthy foods, calories and sugar
content in popular foods, and easy exercise routines. Participants also had a chance to get
their face painted and bounce inside a bouncy house. A competitive 5K color run was a fun
and colorful experience for all that participated. Race winners included Josh Diaz in 1 st
place, followed by Christian Vega in 2 nd place, and Chandler Coughlin in 3 rd place.

Overall the chapter raised, with the help of the participants and sponsors donations, a total
of $2400. These proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association as part of
Clayton DECA’s annual community service project. In addition, the chapter made a
donation to the family of Naomi Reeves, a local child from Garner that is a heart transplant

The Clayton High School DECA chapter wants to thank all of this year’s participants and
