Weekly Update September 26th - 30th

This week, we celebrate homecoming and the annual CHS Spirit Week. Please see our social media and emails for the themes on different days this week. As a reminder, all attire each day must adhere to JCPS dress code. Also, the events of the week should enhance our school atmosphere and not be a disruption to our educational environment.

One of the events during the week is the class hall decoration contest. Each of the graduating classes has been given an area of the school to decorate…I expect all students to respect the great efforts of our student leaders to decorate and show school spirit across our campus.

Part of our homecoming festivities include our annual Homecoming parade which will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 27th. We encourage all Comets to either take part in the parade or come out and support our school’s clubs, teams, and the 2022 Homecoming court. Following the parade, the annual Powderpuff games will be held beginning at 7:00 PM in Nixon-Fowler Stadium. The cost to attend is $5 so plan on coming to the parade and then making your way down to the stadium for the powderpuff games. At the game, the concession stand will be open and all proceeds from the event go to support the CHS PTSA.

The homecoming pep rally and game is scheduled to be held on Friday. However, we are keeping an eye on the weather and will notify everyone if anything needs to be changed later in the week.

Last week, students did a great job with our COMET Time schedule. Remember that the window for signing up for COMET Time runs from 7:00 PM the evening before until 9:00 AM the morning of. All students must sign up each day for where they will be…those who do not sign up will be assigned to the COMET Time detention room. Students must report to where they have signed up for…failure to do so will also result in COMET Time detention. Juniors and seniors with early release or who have had a signed authorization form on file have the Off Campus already in their COMET Time selection - they only need to change it if they are remaining on campus during COMET Time.

Students being tardy to class continues to be an issue. Parents, you can help us by having your student at school by 7:10. There are often several cars that are not pulling into campus until after 7:15 to drop off their student. Also, students have 8 minutes during class changes - there is no reason for a student to be tardy to their next class. As such, beginning tomorrow, we will not allow students to leave their class in the first 10 minutes of the period unless it is an emergency situation to allow us to clear hallways of students who are tardy. It is imperative that in a school of over 2000 students that we are efficient in our monitoring of student movement.

Also, this is a reminder that all students are required to have their student ID each day. Students were issued a lanyard and card holder last week. Students should have these on them daily for safety and security on our campus. If an adult asks a student to show them their ID, it is the expectation that students comply. Those that need to have an ID made will have the opportunity this week to do so.

Finally, we will be pushing out information later this week regarding Evening Academy opportunities which will begin in October.

We look forward to another great week in Comet Country - thank you for continued support and for being COMETS ALL IN. Have a good night.
