Weekly Update for November 15th - 19th, 2021

Good evening, this is Bennett Jones, principal of Clayton High School with the weekly update for November 15th - 19th, 2021.

First, I hope everyone enjoyed the extended weekend. Monday through Wednesday we will utilize our normal schedule, Thursday will be 1st block clubs, and Friday will be 2nd block club schedule. Schedule information is in student emails and on our website. Evening Academy will run Monday through Thursday this week and students must sign up beforehand in order to attend. Information is on the Evening Academy website. As a reminder, students can use Evening Academy to make up absences for this quarter in order to receive an attendance waiver.

Students are reminded that they must remain with their teacher or coach after school dismisses. Students are not allowed to be in unauthorized locations of campus and should remain supervised until they leave campus.

Next, this week we do expect that some bus routes may be delayed due to a shortage of drivers. We continue to do the best we can to try to notify students, but please have alternate transportation plans in place if needed.

As a reminder, our exam schedule is posted on the CHS website. We are down to 15 school days remaining until exams begin and we want each of our students to take advantage of their classroom learning activities. This also means that we will not tolerate disruptive behavior that interferes with a positive learning environment for our students. This includes the inappropriate use of social media including comments that are disruptive or harassing to other students or staff members.

Next, student IDs have been issued for nearly all students. Students are to have their IDs with them at all times to access buildings. They are also expected to present it to a staff member if requested.

Parents, I need you to please discuss with your student the dangers associated with vaping. We have seen an increase in the use of vapes and non-tobacco pens on campus. These are against JCPS policies and could be possible controlled substances with legal ramifications. We will not tolerate them being on campus and will continue to assign consequences for those that violate the JCPS policy.

On a positive note, this Thursday - Saturday, the CHS Performing Arts department is presenting the play Rumors. Tickets are available online for shows each night at 7:00 PM. I invite you all to attend one of the shows, our student productions are always fantastic!

Finally, as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, there will not be an update sent next weekend. I am thankful for all of our awesome Comets, our tremendous faculty and staff, and our supportive parents and Comets community. In these unprecedented times, us working together each day is vital to providing the best educational experiences for all of our students. I am grateful for you all and for you being Comets ALL In...have a good night, a great week, and a very Happy Thanksgiving.
