Weekly Update 9-12-2021
Students did a tremendous job last week with the daily schedule, thank you for your continued efforts for students to get where they need to be each day on time. Parents, we continue to address concerns of students being dropped off on the street in the morning and with parents parking illegally on Fayetteville Street and Hamby Streets in the afternoon. Please follow the advertised procedures for carpool so that students may arrive and leave campus each day safely. Also, this is a reminder that the back parking lots are for student drivers and bus riders only.
There are a couple of student behaviors that we continue to have to address so parents I am asking for your help. The first is continued issues with the dress code, especially bare midriffs, tank tops, and hoods. Students have received numerous reminders and repeated violations will receive consequences in accordance to JCPS policy. On a similar note, we have begun having issues with some students about the wearing of masks correctly - especially on buses. As a reminder, JCPS requires the correct wearing of masks at all times indoors and on buses unless students are actively eating. Finally, all students are reminded that disruptions to the learning environment will not be tolerated -- this includes students being out of their assigned locations during the school day.
Next, I have a couple of announcement reminders. Pictures for underclassmen will be held on Friday, September 17th. Students will report for pictures at designated times on Friday.
The CHS PTSA encourages all students and parents to join the PTSA. Membership is $10 and can be done online. The largest fundraiser for the PTSA is the annual CHS PowderPuff game which will be held on Tuesday, October 5th. Any ladies interested in playing and male students interested in cheering should pick up a registration form from the front office. The cost to play is $10 and includes your t-shirt. Registration is first come, first served and closes on September 20th or when spots are all filled. The cost to attend the event is $5 at the gate.
Next, a video club fair will be held on Friday, September 17th during 3rd block. Students will be able to sign up for different clubs during the next two weeks. Club meetings will begin on October 1st.
As we have settled into the semester, I encourage all students to stay up-to-date in their school assignments. Grades are updated weekly in PowerSchool and I recommend parents to utilize the parent portal for updates. If there are questions, students and parents should contact the individual teacher first. Our front office is being inundated with phone calls and parent drop ins requesting to speak directly with individuals at the school. While we will do our very best to address immediate and urgent concerns regarding safety, our focus during the school day is on students safety and instruction. As such, we may not be available to address your concern without a scheduled appointment -- I encourage you to send any non-emergency questions or concerns via email or leave a voicemail that can be returned by the appropriate staff member as soon as possible.
Finally, the CHS Evening Academy will begin on Monday, September 20th from 2:30 - 5:30 and will run each week Monday through Thursday. This is a time where students will be able to receive additional academic support if needed.
Thank you for your continued support and for being Comets ALL In
