Weekly Update 8/22/21

Monday, August 23rd is our first day of the 2021-2022 school year! Our school hours this year are 7:10 - 2:20. Students may enter the building at 6:45 daily and should be in class by 7:10. All students should report to their advisory teacher on Monday morning. Homeroom teachers are listed on student schedules and lists will be posted throughout the school to direct students where to report.

If you are a car rider, remember that car riders can be dropped off either at the front door or beside the main gym starting at 6:45. A video describing these patterns can be found on our website. As a reminder, dropping off students on the streets or other parking lots is not permitted for your student’s safety.
 
Students who drive and park in the N lot near the greenhouse should also enter off of Fayetteville Street. All other student drivers who drive to campus should enter from Robertson Street entrances. Students who park near the soccer or baseball fields should enter near Walgreens and those who park in the softball lot should enter behind the softball field near the EMS building.  For all car traffic, please be advised that it will take at least one week for everyone to get accustomed to the traffic patterns around the school. Please allow yourself time to drive safely and please be patient in the event of long lines. Clayton Police and the Johnston County Sheriff’s office will be assisting with traffic this week, please follow their directions.

In the afternoon, car riders should be picked up from 2:15-2:30. Please coordinate with your student as to where to meet you after school in regards to the same areas as morning dropoff.

All buses will unload and load in the lot near the tennis courts. Students that have bus issues will be called to meet with the administrator in charge of buses during the first day. Your student’s bus driver should have contacted you with information regarding the number of the bus, stop time, and location. Please be aware that for the first day or two, you may need to have alternate transportation options available as we have grown over 150 students from the end of last school year.

Next, there is a detailed process by which we handle scheduling issues. Please encourage your student to listen to their advisory teacher Monday morning for instructions and to ask them if they have any questions. If a student has a hole in their schedule, they will report to the Old Gym during that block where they will meet with a staff member to fix their schedule. Students requesting early release or late arrival will report to the cafeteria during that time to get the required documentation completed. Late arrival and early dismissal will begin on Tuesday, August 24th for those that have it.

All students will watch a video from me during Advisory on Monday where I will share further information about our school processes. Also, tomorrow’s message will share further details about required forms and necessary information from parents. Be sure to check our websites, our social media platforms, and your emails for information routinely.

Finally, please be reminded that all students, staff, and visitors must wear a mask correctly while indoors on school grounds. We thank you in advance for your cooperation on this matter that has been determined by the JCPS Board of Education. We also ask for any students exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19 to stay home and to communicate with the school if a student has tested positive or is under quarantine directed by the Health Department.
