CHS Weekly Update - 5/23/21

This is Bennett Jones, principal of Clayton High School with the weekly update for the upcoming week, May 24th - 28th, 2021.

First, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Cenior Celebration and parade on Thursday, it was a great event for our students, staff, and community!

Next, I want to remind everyone of our exam schedule which is posted on our website. As a reminder, only those needing to take exams in certain CTE courses or EOC exams in Math 1, Math 3, English 2, and Biology must attend in person this week. All teacher-made exams are asynchronous and do not require in person attendance. If a student has multiple EOCs on the same day, English 2 and Math 1 will be given first, the other will be taken on Wednesday for those students. All students may be dismissed from school at the end of their testing session and are not required to attend after they complete all of their exams.

As a reminder, students who checked out a Chromebook and/or hotspot from the school should plan to return when they take their last exam. Information regarding return of these items can be found on the CHS website.

Information regarding summer learning for credit completion and credit recovery can be found at this link and the application is found at this link. There will be two summer sessions running from June 7th - 24th and June 28th - July 15th. Students needing to complete course material may attend either or both of the sessions and transportation can be provided. Again, I highly encourage students who have struggled academically towards graduation and need additional credits to consider attending in-person summer learning. Parents, I encourage you to check your student’s PowerSchool and to push students to do their best. Students are reminded that if they do not successfully complete a course, the amount of credit recovery is determined by overall student performance. Those who do not take advantage of summer learning will have to retake the entire course next school year. Any questions regarding summer learning can be directed to Mr. Jeff Sullivan.

Seniors and senior parents are reminded of the events for this week including scholarship night on Monday, the Senior Night of Champions for athletics on Wednesday, and the Senior Breakfast and Graduation practice on Friday morning. Details will be sent again to seniors and can be found on the senior Remind and senior website/social media.

Finally, I want to encourage all students to do their very best this week on exams. These count 20% of your overall grade. If students are unable to complete exams due to illness, they will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity during summer school.

Thank you as always for your continued support and for being Comets ALL IN, have a good evening and a great last week of school!
