  • FFA Competes in the North Carolina State FFA Food Science Career Development Event

    esterday two students from the Riverwood Middle FFA competed in the North Carolina State FFA Food Science Career Development Event. Those students were Mason Rosenbaum and Dakota Westmoreland. This team was the only middle school to compete and will receive recognition as the top-scoring Middle School in the state. They finished 9th overall against high school teams. Placed 3rd in our Region and 2nd in our Federation. Congratulations to both students on all their hard work!!! Also a BIG thank you to Mr. Schappert for serving as a proctor for the event!!!

    What a beautiful day to start our bike club today. Our SRO, Officer Duran led the start of the club with a safety course, then those participating began riding through the neighborhood.   • Huge Thank You to Cargill Incorporated!

    What a wonderful way to end a Monday! This afternoon, we were greeted by Mr. House as he represented Cargill Incorporated with a donation to our school in the amount of $4,964. These funds will help us purchase additional smart panels for our classrooms. Thank you Mr. House for stopping by today and for Cargill's generous donation!

    For the month of March, we are celebrating our Long Term Substitutes who have helped us in many capacities to keep uninterrupted instruction going for students as well as Mr. Green who is supporting our custodial team as a floater everyday!   • FFA Horse Evaluation Junior Career Development Event

    Our Horse Evaluation team earned a 3rd place finish in the State for FFA Horse Evaluation Junior Career Development Event on Thursday afternoon [March 25th]. This team was also the top-scoring middle school in the state!!! Team Members were Aletha Rich, Carlie Pope, Anna Adair, and Mason Rosenbaum. Carlie Pope had a 6th place overall individual score in the state competition. Congratulations to these individuals and all their hard work!!!

  • Battle of the Books

    Our team has worked hard to prepare for the Battle of the Books County Competition on Friday, March 19th and did a great job! They read a variety of books from the state list and thoroughly enjoyed being together as a team today! It was a true celebration of reading! Our sister school, Swift Creek Middle, won the competition, with Smithfield Middle coming in second, and Cleveland Middle in third place.

  • Thank You Ms. Percy!

    Ms. Percy was finally recognized today when we were able to catch her on campus here at Riverwood Middle. She serves our school as a social worker and provides services, resources and support to many students and families within our community. We are thankful to have a great partnership with her!

  • Brendan Stevens, 8th Grader, Excels with Math Counts

    Congratulations to Brendan Stevens! Brendan is an 8th grade student and a participant in the Math Counts club with Ms. Edwards. He is the first student from Riverwood Middle who has made it to the invitational level. He was in the top 1/3 at the Chapter Regional Competition. Brendan Stevens reached this accomplishment by using the MathCounts trainer app on his own time since he learned about it last year in MathCounts. We are so proud of you Brendan!

  • 6th Grade Teachers Celebrate Valentine's Day

    6th Grade Teachers continue to build each other up by celebrating the individual contributions each teacher brings to the hallway. Last week, they shared words that describe each other on a bag then filled it with 'love'ly treats for Valentine's Day.

  • 8th Grade Social Studies Students Learn about Wig Wag Flag Codes

    On Thursday February 4, 2021, the 8th grade Social Studies classes learned about Wig Wag flag codes that were used during the Civil War. Students learned that the flag code system was used to help soldiers communicate across the battlefield. Students were able to practice the flag signals in a friendly competition. Teams raced to see who could figure out the messages spelled out in the Wig Wag flag code.

    Ms. Jenna Della Jacono was recognized this week as the Riverwood Middle School first year teacher of the year. She is there for the kids, she's there for the school, and she has heart. Riverwood Middle is lucky to have Ms. Jenna! Congratulations!
