  • Jaguar Battle of the Books Team Places 7th At Competition

    On February 28th, the NJMS Battle of the Books team matched their reading strength against all other JCPS middle schools in the annual Battle of the Books competition. To prepare for competition, the team read a list of 22 books selected by the North Carolina School Library Media Association, and practiced answering hundreds of questions about the books. Competing for NJMS were 7th graders, Philip Bradshaw, Nate Davis, Katelin Gronendyke, Sara Johnson, Logan Narron, Alayna Phillips, Isaac Sevigny, and 6th graders, Stephanie Cruz-Aburto, Camden Ford, Emily Holland, Katie Holloman, and Miranda Rodgers.

  • MATHCOUNTS TEAM COMPETES IN DISTRICT COMPETITION

    Ten students from NJMS represented our school at the recent MATHCOUNTS competition on Thursday, January 16th. The students were coached by Bonnie Schaffer who serves as an eighth grade math teacher. These students have been working together during JAG time on rigorous math problems since the beginning of the year in preparation for the competition. During the competition, students work together as individuals and as a team. Eighth grade student, Nathan Fitzgerald, received a second place medal in the individual round of the competition. He had the second highest score of all of the participating students in the district. There were at least one hundred students in the competition. Jesus Coyt, one of our seventh grade students, placed 10th in the district in the individual round of the competition. Nathan Fitzgerald also won first place in the district in the Countdown round. The following students represented NJMS at the MATHCOUNTS competition. Eighth grade students include Laney Caviness, Nathan Fitzgerald. Noah Hales. Brayden Lawhorn. and Mudian Mustafa. Participating seventh grade students were Kate Barnes, Jesus Coyt, and Rebecca Stancil. Elmer Villagran and Avery Cahall were the two sixth grade students on the team.

  • Mrs. Brown: Classified Employee of the Month

    Congratulations to Mrs. Brown on being selected as our most recent Classified Employee of the Month! Mrs. Brown is a bus driver and cafeteria worker. She has been at NJMS for many years. She works hard and is always helpful to students and staff. We are blessed to have her in our Jaguar family!

    Congratulations to Mrs. Price, 6th grade Social Studies teacher on becoming our most recent Certified Employee of the Month! She works hard each and every day and is a big motivator to her students and peers! She always has a smile on her face! We are thankful to have her here at NJMS!

  • Johnston Health Professionals Visit 7th Grade Science Classes

    Johnston Health professionals recently visited Mrs. Diaz's 7th grade science classes. They provided students with a presentation on the immune system and the importance of maintaining a healthy body. Students had a chance to do some hands on learning involving proper hand washing techniques. The students enjoyed the visit and we are very thankful for them taking the time out of their busy schedules to come see us. This is the first time that Johnston's Health Educational departments have visited a Johnston County Public School.

  • Jaguars Gives Back to Community Through Food Drive

    Our Jaguar students and staff donated 2,780 items during our annual Food Drive held during the week of November 18-22. The items we collected were given to the Hinnant Outreach Center in Micro and to Kenly Area Ministries. The Food Drive was sponsored by the NJMS chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Thank you to all of those who participated and made this event a huge success!
