My name is Dr. Ryan Ewell. It is with great anticipation and excitement that I welcome you to the 2025-26 school year. I am honored and humbled to begin my 9th year as an Administrator, all with Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS). 

As your Principal, it is important to me that I work collaboratively with our parents, and our amazing teachers to empower our students to enrich their world by facilitating learning through relationships and relevant, innovative experiences.

Please know that I am here first and foremost for the benefit of our most important assets, which are the wonderful students that come through our doors each day.

Working together as a partnership of educators, families, and community members will provide our students an environment of academic excellence and high expectations.

Janlyn Simmons

Welcome to Smithfield-Selma High School. My name is Janlyn C. Simmons, and it is an honor to serve as Assistant Principal and to be a part of the SSS community. I have dedicated 23 years to the field of education, including five years as a Principal in Puerto Rico. It is a privilege to serve our community, and I would like to assure you that we are here to support you and to always work toward finding the best solutions for our students, who remain our highest priority.

Ra'Tasha Rouse

Hi, I’m Ms. Rouse, and I’m so excited to serve as an Assistant Principal here at SSS! With 8 years of experience in education, I’ve had the privilege of supporting students and families in meaningful ways—but nothing compares to being back home in Smithfield, the place that helped shape who I am today.

Being able to give back to my community through education is truly an honor. My heart is in this work, and my mission is simple: to support our students, families, and staff with care, consistency, and compassion. I believe every student deserves to feel seen, heard, and empowered, and I’ll always work hard to make sure they remain my top priority.

Jonathan Anderson

Welcome to Smithfield-Selma High School! My name is Jonathan Miguel Anderson, Sr. I am delighted to serve the students, parents, teachers, support staff, and wider community of Sparta Nation as an Assistant Principal.

I was born and reared in the great state of Texas and I am proud to call North Carolina my home since 2002. I began my career as a professional educator teaching Social Studies in Cumberland County for five years and here at SSS for two years. Afterwards, I engaged in transformative hands-on training for school administration at Riverwood Elementary School.

I aim to help facilitate student safety, quality instruction, and academic growth for all students through fostering positive relationships. I look forward to working with you as Sparta Nation marches on to victory this school year!

Philip Trent Hall

Welcome to Smithfield-Selma High School. My name is Philip Trent Hall, and I am grateful and excited to serve as an Assistant Principal at SSS. I have 20 years of experience in education, serving as a classroom teacher, ESL educator, program coordinator, and school leader. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to building strong relationships, supporting teachers, and creating opportunities for all students to grow and succeed.

It is an honor to serve the students and families of Smithfield-Selma High School. I believe that strong schools are built through relationships, collaboration, and a shared commitment to student success. My goal is to be present, accessible, and a resource for our students, staff, and families. I am incredibly thankful and proud to call SSS home. I look forward to working alongside our families and community to make a positive impact on our students each day.
