JCPS uses the following indicators: M (mastery), P (progressing toward mastery), B (beginning to progress toward mastery) or N (not yet demonstrating progress).

M - Indicates that the student consistently and independently demonstrates mastery of the grade level standard.

P - Indicates that the student is progressing toward consistent and independent mastery of the grade level standard. 

B - Indicates that the student is beginning to progress toward the grade level standard. 

N - Indicates that the student is not yet demonstrating progress toward the grade level standard.

Standards Based Proficiency Scales and Standards

A proficiency scales represents the progression of learning goals in regards to current state standards.  Teachers have Proficiency Scales which break priority standards down into Learning Targets.  Proficiency Scales guide teacher instruction and student learning and goal setting.  Learning Targets- break down the standard into skills needed for mastery.  Watch the video linked below for an example.
