Welcome all Riverwood Rams!

I am so excited to be serving you in my role as Principal. This is my 30th year in education and I am humbled and elated to spend this next year with you all. I was a Science teacher for 20 years and actually worked here at Riverwood as a Science lab teacher several years ago. I have experience teaching Science, Math, Social Studies and ELA in both Elementary and Middle School. I served as an Assistant Principal at both the Middle and Elementary level and have more than 8 years' experience in administration. My own children both attended Riverwood and I have a huge love for this school, the staff, the community and especially the children, who are the pride and joy. My son is a Junior at NC State and my daughter just graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. My husband is also an educator and currently teaches Social Studies at Corinth Holders HS. I see myself as a servant leader and a lover of learning. My role is to make sure all students are safe and can grow academically and socially. I take my job very seriously and I have a huge heart and passion for education and Johnston County Public Schools.

In my personal life, I love to travel with my family and spend as much time in nature as I can. I am still a Science teacher at heart and love taking tons of wildlife pictures. I love all living things, and have an especially unusual love for bees, spiders and snakes. I love to explore and learn every day and hope to share that passion with some of you throughout our time together. I believe learning should be an engaging experience that elicits curiosity and passion, no matter what age you are.

I am truly excited and honored to be part of the Riverwood Elementary family as Assistant Principal! I have been in education for 17 years, with most of my experience in elementary education teaching grades PreK-5. I began my career as a Music Specialist and earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Appalachian State University. Music is still a huge part of my life, and I love playing the saxophone, guitar, piano, and ukulele.

For the past several years, I have worked at the middle school level as a Magnet Coordinator. In that role, I had the opportunity to work closely with students, staff, families, and community partners while supporting school programs, leading professional development, and creating opportunities for students. No matter what role I have been in, building relationships, supporting others, and helping create a positive school community have always been incredibly important to me.

I grew up in Carteret County on the coast of North Carolina, went to college at Appalachian State in Boone, and have now called this area home for nearly 17 years. I am especially excited to serve in Johnston County because this is home for my family. My husband, Jonathan, and our two boys, Felix and Everett, are my greatest joys. We love spending time together, being outdoors, traveling, and finding new adventures.

I am so grateful to be at Riverwood and to have the opportunity to serve this incredible school community. I look forward to getting to know our students and families, supporting our amazing staff, and learning and growing alongside everyone at Riverwood!
