Welcome to the Powhatan Elementary School's website. My name is Dan Kerwin and I’m excited about being in my 27th year in education. Prior to joining the Powhatan family, I have served in multiple capacities in education. I started my career in Johnston County as a fifth grade teacher at Princeton and received the First Year Teacher of the Year Award for the Bulldogs. After Princeton, I moved to Wake County to work at Brooks Museums Magnet. At Brooks, I was fortunate to learn many instructional strategies as a third grade teacher, instructional technology coordinator, and as a magnet coordinator. After completing my Masters in Administration degree from North Carolina State, I served as the Assistant Principal at Wiley International Magnet. At this time in my career, I chose to return to Johnston County to be closer to my family and to teach fourth grade at West Clayton. During my time at West Clayton, I started course work for my Educational Administration and Supervision, EdS degree at East Carolina. Prior to becoming principal at Powhatan, I served as the Assistant Principal at Riverwood Elementary. During this time, I completed my EdS degree and look forward to the learning opportunities of the future.
My wife and I are fortunate that both of our children have attended Johnston County Public Schools. We look forward to continuing to be a part of the Powhatan Community. Thank you for your commitment to our school and we welcome you as we partner together for the school year.
