David K. Allen

Mr. David K. Allen, Principal

Mr. David Allen is excited to join the Panther community! With 20 years of educational experience, he is excited to serve as your Principal at North Johnston. Mr. Allen served as a teacher, assistant principal (five years) and principal (six years) at Smithfield-Selma High School for more than 16 years. Under his leadership, the school grew in academics, size, and program offerings to students. Mr. Allen spent two years at the district level facilitating the development of the district's 2029 Strategic Plan and serving in Human Resources as a hiring director. His passion to be back in a school with students and staff have brought him here.

Mr. Allen graduated from Mount Olive College with a BA in Religion in 2000. He went on to receive his teaching license in 2004, his National Board Teacher Certification in 2008 and his Masters in School Administration from East Carolina University in 2013.

Mr. Allen is passionate about staff and student success and believes community involvement makes a good school a great school. Outside of school, Mr. Allen has two sons, ages 17 and 13 and he and his wife, Maria, recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. In his spare time, Mr. Allen is also a bi-vocational pastor and enjoys the Andy Griffith Show.

Timothy Chartrand

Mr. Tim Chartrand, Assistant Principal

10-12th Grade Admin

Testing Coordinator

Mr. Chartrand graduated from Barton College and NC State University with a Bachelor's in Education and a Masters of School Administration. He taught at Zebulon Elementary and Eastway Elementary for 12 years before becoming a Panther! He has been an Assistant Principal at North Johnston High School for two years. He is also our Testing Coordinator. Mr. Chartrand is originally from a town near Detroit, Michigan. He loves spending time outside of school being active with his wife and 2 boys.

Assistant-Principal-Smith

Mr. Rhett Smith , Assistant Principal

9th Grade Admin

Mr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science from NC State and teaching credentials from East Carolina. He taught 7th-grade science for 7 years in Smithfield and Washington D.C. In 2019, he completed a Master of Education in Education Policy and Leadership from American University, and returned to Smithfield, becoming the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program Coordinator at Smithfield-Selma High School. Mr. Smith has spent much of his career as a wrestling coach at both the middle school and high school levels. He is currently a North Carolina Principal Fellow at NC State University.
