Attendance Tips


If your child is absent please send a written note from the parent/guardian or doctor with child's first/last name, reason for absence(s), date of absence(s), and teacher's name the day they return to school. Medical note should be provided if your child went to the doctor. No note will result in unexcused absence. Please check Parent Portal and/or call the school periodically and speak with someone to check on the status of your child's attendance and provide notes for absences if needed.


 If absences from cIass exceed four per nine weeks, eight per semester or sixteen per year, grades can be affected, regardless of the reasons for the absences per the JCS Board Policy 4110. Also if your child accumulates 10 or more unexcused absences, the parent/guardian maybe required to go to court. Please review the N.C. Compulsory School Attendance Law G.S.-115C-378) which can be found on the Johnston County School website, your child's school website or call the school to request the information.


Students are expected to remain in school the entire instructional day. Please limit tardiness and early dismissals as they will be excused for emergencies only.

Instruction is a priority and students need to be present to be engaged learners. If your child is absent, please send in a note the day they return with the reason for the absence.   No note is considered an unexcused absence.

Please Remember: 

  • Photo Identification will be required to sign a student out and parent/adult must be listed on the emergency card in the office.

  • Students who leave before 12:15 p.m. or report to school after 12:15 p.m. will be counted absent.

  • All Educational Trips must be approved 5 days in advance by requesting a form from the office. Approval must be given by the principal. If it is not approved in advance the absences will be unexcused.
