• Virtual Program

Purpose

  • Johnston County Public Schools understands and empathizes with our families who may feel uncomfortable sending students back to school. Our desire is to meet the instructional needs of our students while protecting their health and well-being. For these reasons, we are offering an entirely virtual learning program for instruction in Fall 2020, the Johnston County Virtual Program.

All students who receive instruction in the Virtual Program should be independent learners who are organized, flexible, & motivated to stay actively engaged in a completely online environment. Students will need a device and internet access at home. Instructional support from an adult caregiver may be needed during the day.

Students enrolling in the virtual program will be assigned to a JCPS teacher, not necessarily a teacher from their assigned school.

K-5 Virtual Program

  • Students in the K-5 Virtual Program will receive instruction from teachers that do not teach in the face-to-face model and may be different from those teachers assigned to the base school These teachers will teach only students in the virtual program, and a student’s virtual classroom may include students from multiple schools across the district. It is recommended that students in the Virtual Program participate in live instructional delivery. Students in the K-5 Virtual Program are committing to:

    • Follow the same calendar as students in the face-to-face setting
    • Adhere to all Board policies regarding daily attendance and behavior
    • Take the same formative and summative assessments as students in the face-to-face setting
    • Remain in the Virtual Program for the entirety of the Fall 2020 Semester which ends on December 18, 2020

Grades 6-12 Virtual Program

  • Students in the 6-12 Virtual Program will receive instruction from their assigned teacher at the base school. The teachers will use a webcam to stream live instruction and post lessons online for viewing at a later time, if needed. In the event a live lesson cannot be streamed, a pre-recorded lesson will be provided and posted. Students in the 6-12 Virtual Program will follow the daily schedule utilized at the base school.
