Johnston County Public Schools will:
- Minimize the spread of COVID-19 by conducting daily symptom and temperature screenings and/or checks for all students and any person who enters a school building.
- Follow social distancing protocols for anyone who enters school buildings.
- Provide water stations with disposable cups that will be monitored by adult staff.
- Require all students in grades K-12 to wear face coverings in school and on school buses. All staff and adult visitors must wear a face covering in school buildings and offices.
- Please note that the state will provide five cloth, reusable face coverings for each student and staff member. The school system will provide a disposable face covering for any guest who is not equipped with one.
- Provide face shields for each staff and bus driver if one is requested. The use of shields is not a substitution for cloth masks, but it provided as an additional safety precaution.
- Follow CDC, state, and local guidelines for handling suspected, presumptive, or confirmed COVID-19 cases.
- Establish dedicated space for symptomatic individuals.
- Provide support and accomodations to families with vulnerable students.
- Share timely and accurate information about COVID-19 cases at schools and combat misinformation.
- Provide school nurses with starter Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) packs.
Operations

Johnston County Public Schools will:
- Follow all CDC, state, and local guidlines and adhere to cleaning protocols for all schools and office buildings.
- Require all facilities to maintain social distancing throughout classrooms and schools.
- Provide signage to encourage social distancing and frequent hand washing.
- Provide signage in key areas of all facilities with reminders to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and encourage frequent hand washing.
- Install physical barriers where practical, such as protective shields at front office desks.
- Install hand sanitizing stations throughout all schools and in each classroom.
- Enhance cleaning regimens for high-touch areas.
- Limit non-essential use of buildings and facilities by visitors and outside groups.
- Limit the use of large gatherings by serving meals in classrooms and other areas.
Custodial Services FAQ

1. Will the cleaning/ sanitizing chemicals be safe around students?
The majority of the cleaning in the classrooms will be done after the kids go home for the day. Avistat D, and Common Scents #3 are safe to use around the students.

2. Do schools have a Lysol type of product?
Concept aerosol (Kills 99.9% of germs) should be used only when students are no longer in the building for the day.

3. Are all the cleaning products in the SDS book?
All chemicals provided from the custodial warehouse should be in the SDS book. The book should be in the Head Custodians office. All custodians should know where it is. Also bleach is in the SDS book, however we do not carry bleach in our warehouse.

4. What are the kill claims on our product ?
Avistat D has a 2 minute kill time. Common Scents #3 has a 10 minute kill time.
This means that the product has to be on the surface at least this long to kill the germs. -
5. What happens if you run out of PPE products?
The PPE products will be added to the School Dude Inventory Direct, so the custodian will be able to order more when placing their monthly supply order.

6. Will my child be provided PPE if he/she does not have it?
Yes, masks and other means of PPE will be available at all times.

7. What can my child expect on the first day?
Students will be greeted at the door to be prescreened for symptoms. Classrooms will be prearranged to ensure adequate social distancing. Informational signage and floor markings will be in place for guidance and communal times (bathroom breaks, lunch, and recess) will alternate to ensure adequate social distancing.

8. What process will be taken to make sure my child's classroom is safe and sanitized?
The class will remain in their classroom for the majority of the day. The teacher will have disinfectant wipes that they may use during class. The classroom will get vacuumed and sanitized at the end of each day.

9. Will the restrooms be cleaned during the day while students are in school?
The bathrooms will be checked and sanitized between restroom visits during the day. When the classes make a bathroom schedule, the Head Custodian can make a sanitation schedule. The deep cleaning should be done at the end of the school day.
