Mrs. Chareen Monk

Greetings Dynamic Dolphins and Welcome to Speech Therapy!

I am so excited to be joining South Smithfield Elementary for my third year as a speech therapist at SSE but have been a speech therapist for almost 30 years. I have worked in various settings in addition to schools including; acute care in hospitals, private therapy clinics and long term care.  I am located in Room 37 (3-5 wing) on Wednesdays (virtually), Thursdays and Fridays and I work at various other schools on Mondays and Tuesdays with students who are learning to use assistiave technology. If your child has been assigned to me for speech, I will be in contact with you at some point during the school year to schedule their annual IEP. The purpose of this is to review their goals that we will be working on over the next year. Please remember that if at any time you have concerns or wish to change something in your child's plan, you may schedule a meeting with me by sending me a written message or email.

Just a few reminders:

- For students who come to SSE just for speech, we follow the Johnston County Schools Restart Calendar for teacher workdays, holidays and early releases.

- For updates regarding inclement weather, please check the county website: https://www.johnston.k12.nc.us/Page/12367

- Please let me know if your child has any special dietary restrictions since we sometimes use food and flavor additives in speech.

- Check your child's weekly folders and planners for additional speech practice assignments throughout the week.

- My extension at school is 5762.

I am looking forward to a DYNAMIC SCHOOL YEAR!

Mrs. Monk
