Welcome, Ravens! 2022-2023

-
Hello!
I'm Mr. Swarr and I teach 6th grade science. I started teaching at Riverwood during the 2018-2019 school year. I was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina where I have lived all my life except for a two-year stint in Chicago, Illinois after graduating college. Did you know that teaching is not my first career? I graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in Commercial Photography and worked as a photographer and assistant before finding my true calling. I earned my teaching certification through North Carolina State University.
One of my favorite hobbies is playing guitar, which I've been doing since I was in middle school. I also try to teach myself simple songs on piano. Whether it be actively playing or passively listening, I am always passionate about my music. I started collecting vinyl records in college, and chances are you can find me at the local thrift stores and record stores searching for my next discovery. There are decades of recorded music that hold songs still new to my ears!
I am so grateful to be part of the Riverwood family. It is a great privilege to be part of your learning experience.
Thanks for visiting my website!
