Daily expectations students will follow the school-wide ROAM expectations daily to ensure they get the most out of their school day. Additionally, we have four guiding questions to help keep us on track each day – these questions will be posted in each classroom, and students will have a copy for their binder to review as needed. When a student chooses to ignore expectations, Mrs. Hays, Ms. Jenkins, and Mrs. Welch will do the following:

    1. Give reminder(s) as needed

    2. Talk it out privately with the student to review the guiding questions.

    3. If the behavior continues a parent-teacher conference will be scheduled.

    4. Administration will be asked to help us address the continued behavior and develop a solution if needed.

Snack we will have an optional snack each afternoon. If your child wants to bring a snack, please make sure it’s easy to eat and relatively mess free. Water bottles are allowed, but please do not send juice or flavored powders as they stain and attract ants.

Breakfast/Lunch Breakfast is $2.25 and lunch is $3.00. Per county policy, food cannot be brought in from an outside vendor if you visit your child during lunchtime. You may apply for free/reduced lunch by applying to JCPS Nutrition Services; this must be done each new school year. Apply for free lunch and pay for meals at family.titank12.com.

Transportation Please let us know of any transportation changes as soon as possible in the day. You can send a Dojo message, written note, email, or call the school – word of mouth from the student WILL NOT be accepted. Car riders must have a TES car tag in the window of their vehicle to pick up a child. If the person picking up the student does not have a tag, they will be asked to park, come in the building to sign the child out and show ID.

Visitors to the School will need their ID available to show front desk staff when visiting the school during the day.

Absences You must notify your child’s teacher whenever your child is absent from school by sending a written note, email, or Dojo message. The school social worker/data manager will contact you once your student has 6 unexcused absences.

Class DOJO The whole school uses Class DOJO for day-to-day communication. Reminders about school events, classroom activities, and student reminders will be posted there in the “class story” or sent via direct message. (If you “like” or comment on a class post, any parent can see that response; if you send us a direct message it is private and only the teacher you sent it to can see it.)

Communication You can reach us by calling the school, sending a private message via DOJO, or by email. We do our best to return all communication within 24 hours. If you need to speak to someone in the case of an emergency, call the school office at 984-400-7300.

Google Classroom Google Classroom is used a lot for students to complete assignments at school. It is also a great resource for study materials when your child has an upcoming test or quiz. Your child will use the Gmail log in they have from school to get on to google classroom. School applications and programs are best accessed through JCPS Classlink so they preform  correctly.

Homework Students WILL NOT have nightly homework. However, students may sometimes have work to complete at home if they did not complete it during the allotted time during the school day, they have make-up work to do after an absence, they have to study for a test/quiz, or they have a project to work on. Students will record reminders for study/work in their binders. Studying might include practicing with flash cards, going on Google Classroom to practice items, reviewing vocabulary or a book. Studying is best done in smaller time amounts over several days instead of just once the day before a test. Study habits are an important skill 5th graders need to develop as they prepare for the transition to middle school.

Birthdays We love to help your child celebrate their special day at school! Students may bring in store-bought goods to share with the class for their birthday. Please make sure nutrition information is available on the container so we may accommodate nutrition needs in our classes. Contact your child’s teacher to make arrangements.

Enhancements Students will have PE, Media Center, Art, Music, and STEM classes and will go to a different class each day of the week. Your student will have a copy of their class rotation in their binder.

Weekly Folders Your child will bring home a communication folder once a week. Please review all items in the folder – they will be marked to “keep at home” or “sign and return to school”. Please return any papers that need to be signed by Thursday each week.

Cell Phones/Smart Watches If a student’s personal device goes off during class or a student has one out, the teacher will take it up for the rest of the day for the first offence and contact the parent. If it happens again the cell phone will be turned in to the principal to be handled from there. Please note: Students may not use Smart Watches to make phone calls or text during the school day. If you need to contact your child for any reason, please contact the front office. This is a school policy set in place by Mr. Jewett that is taken very seriously, and we appreciate your help and support upholding it.
