Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor in English Licensure in Translation Master in English Teaching
Mrs. Cynthia Chaves
I am a Costa Rican teacher who loves talking about her country while enjoying the experience of learning from other cultures. As a cultural ambassador, I make sure to open my students' and colleagues' minds about alternate forms of sharing knowledge relating to other countries and their ways of living. This is a plus for the position I hold at school as an ESL Teacher due to the fact that my students can learn about other geographical locations while showing pride of their own countries of origin.
Regarding the academic field, I hold a Bachelor's degree in English, a Licensure in Translation and a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign/ Second Language. I have worked in Costa Rica at private and public high schools, as well as at private and public universities for more than 17 years. In the USA I previously taught ESL at Four Oaks Middle School.
I am very willing to learn from my students and co-workers all I can related to the educational field; in the same way, I want to exchange instances which can in the short and long term be beneficial both for the students and the staff members at Johnston County Public Schools.
For the upcoming school year, I will continue to work in my ESL classes with a selected group of newcomers to the country. Also, I will continue providing support in math classes in a co-teaching environment. Finally, I will work in an inclusion English class to further support the students' knowledge and learning of the target language.
Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or at (919) 934-5191 Ext. 5254.

Information on social distancing in school settings has been recently updated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Upon receiving information from the NCDHHS, we consulted with the Johnston County Public Health Department on the impact these updates will have on our school system. This ongoing collaboration continues to guide our decision-making as students return to classrooms for in-person instruction.
As students in grades K-5 begin returning to school, the curbside locations for free meals will now be located at each middle and high school. The curbside meal locations at our elementary schools will end on Friday, Oct. 2 and will open at the middle and high schools on Monday, Oct. 5.
