Masters in Reading Education

Mrs. Natalie Bowman

Wecome!

I am Natalie Bowman and this will be my 18th year teaching - 17 of which have been here at CHES! I graduated from ECU in 2005 with my undergrad degree in Elementary Education, and in 2010 with my Masters in Reading. I am very passionate about reading - I love to read and my goal is to instill a love of reading in all of my students. It doesn't matter what you read as long as you are reading! I am always looking for some new books to read, so if you have a suggestion, feel free to share with me your favorite books.

A little about me. Family time is very important to me - so I try to spend as much time as possible with my family, both those that are near and far. My son, Matthew, will be 5 in September and he keeps us busy... he is always on the go! I also have a daughter, Aubrey, who is 18 months old. When we have some free time, I love to travel and spend time outdoors. My husband and I are always out exploring new places to hike and visit. One of my favorite vacations was spent hiking through the Columbia River Gorge outside of Portland, Oregon. In addition to traveling to new places, we like to visit my family in Nova Scotia, Canada and spending time at the beach. In the summer we are usually in one or the other for several weeks! In addition to traveling and hiking, I enjoy photography.

In the fall, during football, I can be found cheering on my beloved ECU Pirates and my husband's school, Virginia Tech - Go Hokies!  However, when our teams play there is some tension in our house! In addition to football I love Hockey - Go Canes!!!

I look forward to working with your student this upcoming year! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

  • This year we will be using HMH and reading a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts along with several novels. In addition to reading, we will focus on writing narrative, expository, persuasive essays throughout the year. In Social Studies we will be going from North Carolina history (the focus of 4th grade) to American History. We will be talking about exploration; the movement of people, goods, and services; and important historical events in our country's history.
