Miss Abby Buckholt
Hello! Welcome to South Smithfield Elementary!
My name is Abby Buckholt and this will be my 5th year at SSE teaching grades K-5. I'm originally from Pittsburgh, PA. I graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA and received my degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. In 2014, I moved to North Carolina to begin my teaching career and taught at Selma Middle School for 4 years. My true passion is teaching and I love every minute of teaching my students and getting to know all the wonderful students here at SSE. When I'm not at school, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my fiance Nate and 3 amazing bonus children. You can usually catch us watching football, hanging at the beach, or playing with our 3 sweet Bullmastiff puppies, Beau, Bella, and Sampson. I'm looking forward to DYNAMIC year!

Beginning of Grade (BOG) Testing for 3rd Graders
As your child begins third grade, you will see a concentrated focus in ensuring students can read at or above grade level and are making progress in reading proficiency. The goal is to ensure all third grade students can read, comprehend, integrate, and apply complex texts needed for secondary education and career success. As part of the Read to Achieve law (G.S. §115C-83.1) passed by the General Assembly in 2012, your child will take the Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG3) Reading Test to establish a baseline measure of beginning third-grade reading skills. This test will be administered on September 9, 2021
