Ms. Hines

I am originally from Tennessee and moved here in August 2007. This will be my thirteenth year teaching and my sixth year in 4th grade. I am blessed to work with amazing people and have had the privilege of working with 3 student teachers so far in my career!  I also had the honor of being named the 2016-2017 Johnston County Teacher of the Year!   One of my favorite things to do in my free time is to volunteer with disaster relief and serving on rebuild projects.  I also love to read, scrapbook, and spend time with my family and friends.  If you ever see me out and about, be careful. I am a twin and we do look a lot alike. My twin sister works in fifth grade at River Dell Elementary. I have dreamed of being a teacher since I was in elementary school and working in this profession has been a long-time dream come true.

I look forward to helping your child as we set sail on the journey that is to be fourth grade 2019-2020!

  • Our first unit in math is focused on factors, multiples, prime, and composite numbers.  We will start out by reviewing multiplication facts as this is a foundational skill needed for many 4th grade math concepts.  Math class will be split into 2 blocks of time.  The beginning of class will be led whole group as new skills are taught and/or practiced.  The second half of class students will work at their own pace on a pathway as they complete activities to practice and show mastery of each skill.  Students who show mastery on all skills will work on acceleration activities that take the content farther.

Our first unit in science is all about animal adaptations.  We will work on identifying the 5 basic needs all living things need to survive and explore how those needs are met in their habitat.  We will then classify living things into categories (ex. producer, consumer, decomposer) and subcategories (herbivore, carnivore, omnivore).  Then the main part of our unit will have students investigating physical and behavioral adaptations.
