Mrs. Leslie Smith 2021-2022

Hi! My name is Leslie Smith. This is my 7th year teaching; my 4th year at River Dell. I'm so excited to be in second grade teaching your child this year! I was born in Chapel Hill, NC.  I moved to Clayton when I started high school and graduated from Clayton High School. Go Comets!  I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Go Tarheels! I worked in the corporate world after college. Then, after being a stay-at-home mom for 11 years, I started my career as an educator. I have three children: Lee, Rachel and Justin.  Lee works for Grifols like his dad, Rachel is a sophomore at UNCW and Justin will be in 9th grade at Clayton High School. When I have time off from school, I love to spend time with my family, and going to the beach. I am looking forward to a great year and partnering with you in your child's academic, social and emotional growth.

We hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday with their families. We only have 15 days of school until our break in December and we want to encourage everyone to make these days count. There is a PTA meeting on Tuesday evening at 6:00 in the River Dell media center. We would like to encourage everyone to come out and hear about all of the great things that our PTA has been up to. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much!

The weather is getting cooler, and we want to remind you to write your child's name inside of jackets, hats, gloves, etc. in case they end up in the lost and found. Also, please make sure names are written on student water bottles. We want to make sure that if items end up in the office we are able to return them quickly to their owners.

We wanted to update all of our morning carpool families, as well as our morning walkers. All students will now enter at the main entrance in the very front of the school rather than at the glass hallways. At this time we do not have staff available to monitor the glass hallway entrances, and safety is our first priority. This will begin for all tomorrow, October 5th.
