Welcome Back!!! We are so excited to start this school year!
My name is Ms. Kim Foti. This is my 3rd year teaching preschool here at West Smithfield! GO EAGLES! This is my 23rd year teaching preschool overall! Teaching preschool is my passion. I love being able to watch the aha! moments and see them learn and grow! I live in Clayton with my husband and daughter who attends Clayton Middle School. I am so excited to embark on this new school year with you and your family.

Hello my name is Jasmine Williams, I am the intructional assistant in our Preschool Classroom. This is my 8th year here at West Smithfield Elementary School. I currently have an associate degree in Early Education and I working to get my Bachelors degree in Education. Innovative Programs Virtual Family Information Nights Scheduled
Johnston County Public Schools invites students and their families to learn more about our interesting options for our middle and high school students during our Virtual Information Nights on January 28 and February 4, 2021. Participants will be able to visit the virtual spaces for each program and talk with program coordinators and students from 6:00-8:00 pm.

JCPS transitions to Plan B for all students
The Johnston County Board of Education voted to return all Pre-K and EC-Self Contained students to Plan B, four days per week, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 19. These students will participate in face-to-face instruction on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Wednesday serving as a remote learning day. All other students in grades K-12 will remain on Plan C until Monday, Feb. 1.

High School State Assessments Update
On December 8th 2020, the Johnston County School Board of Education voted to return to Plan C (Remote Learning), we would like to provide an update to parents and guardians of options to complete state-mandated End-of-Course (EOC) and Career/Technical Education Post Assessment testing.

Beginning of Grade (BOG) Testing Letters
As your child begins third grade, you will see a concentrated focus in ensuring students can read at or above grade level and is making progress in reading proficiency, so they can read, comprehend, integrate, and apply complex texts needed for secondary education and career success. As part of the Read to Achieve law (G.S. ยง115C-83.1) passed by the General Assembly in 2012, your child will take the Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG3) Reading Test to establish a baseline measure of beginning third-grade reading skills. This test will be administered within the first 20 days of face to face instruction, October 26 - November 23, 2020

School Start and End Times
Just as a reminder, we begin letting students in the building at 8:25 in the mornings. Our tardy bell rings at 8:55. We begin dismissal at 3:55 in the afternoons.
