Mrs. Melanie O'Dell

Welcome Back New 5th Students and Parents!  Let me begin by introducing myself....I am Melanie O'Dell and I am the 5th grade science teacher.  I have been with Johnston County Public Schools for almost 16 years.  I was born and raised right here in Smithfield and am a product of Johnston County Public Schools.  You will soon come to know that I am passionate about science and absolutely love what I do!  I graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS degree in Biology and a BS degree in Zoology.  I am married to my wonderful husband of 28 years, and have two amazing daughters who are both currently attending North Carolina State University.  My goal for this year is to provide a safe, exciting, collaborative environment for my community of learners that will allow each and every student to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  "Let's Go Further Together!"

Please feel free to reach out to me if you need anything.  You can reach me by email, Class Dojo, Google Classroom, or by calling the school.

As part of the Read to Achieve law (G.S. §115C-83.1) passed by the General Assembly in 2012, your child will take the Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG3) Reading Test to establish a baseline measure of beginning third-grade reading skills.
