I am so excited to be teaching Fifth Grade English Language Arts at Selma Middle School this year. This will be my 26th year in education and everyday is still a new adventure.

Monday: Media Monday
Tuesday-Thursday: We are starting our first long-term unit "Cultures in Conflict". This unit will have an anchor text of Thunder Rolling in the Mountains by Scott O'Dell and will cover many different standards. This week we will explore culture, read "The Lewis and Clark Expedition" and establish main idea and details in order to write a summary.
Friday: Station Rotations - Students will move to stations that challenge or support them in their ELA skills.
Week of 9.4.18 (All Blocks)
Monday: Labor Day (Thank you to our Military for their service!)
Tuesday: Each block will be developing a Social Contract to be agreed upon and signed by all students.
Wednesday-Friday: An analysis of Thank You, Mr. Falkner and understanding how reading helps us build knowledge.

Each day has consisted of a read aloud with activities related to building relationships and demonstrating perseverance. Students have created scenarios, bookmarks, and "magnificent things"!

The Johnston County Education Foundation has changed its grant process from a three cycle a year process, to a once a year process. The grant deadline will now be November 15th each year and Grant Patrol will be held on the first Wednesday of December.
