Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Cristal Atkinson. I am a native of the Benson community. I am so excited to teach kindergarten again this year. I have worked in Johnston County Public schools for 10 years as of this year. I have served as a substitute teacher, teacher assistant, and a bus driver.
I am married to my high school sweetheart who is the love of my life. We have four wonderful children and one grandson. We have an amazing daughter and our three sons I am proud to say serve our country by way of being in the military. I am very family oriented and love spending time with my family. I am a member of a nonprofit organization called Granny’s Angels of which our motto is “A Family Affair Called to Care Helping Others Help Themselves.”
Education is especially important, and I am so proud to be a part of helping children learn new and exciting things. I love coming up with creative and fun ways to teach. I am excited about working with parents, students, guardians, grandparents, and other staff members to make this a successful academic school year here at BES for our students.
I enjoy spending time at the beach with my family. I love scented candles and reading a good inspirational novel.

Information on social distancing in school settings has been recently updated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Upon receiving information from the NCDHHS, we consulted with the Johnston County Public Health Department on the impact these updates will have on our school system. This ongoing collaboration continues to guide our decision-making as students return to classrooms for in-person instruction.
