Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Laura Sullivan. I am dual certified in both Elementary Education and Special Education. I graduated from American International College where I earned a Bachelor's degree as well as a Master's of Education degree. This is my 23rd year teaching fourth grade! I started out as a resource room teacher where I specialized in teaching phonics and comprehension reading strategies. About 14 years ago, I decided to move into the classroom with my bag of tricks and have been a fourth grade teacher ever since.
My family is based in Goldsboro, NC where I live with my husband, Dan and my children, Patrick and Molly. My son is a senior in highschool this year and my daughter is starting eighth grade. We moved to this region in 2015 from Massachusetts. We have two dogs a chocolate lab, Declan and a golden doodle named Murphy. We also are blessed to live with a rag doll cat named Thea.
Although I have many interests and responsibilities my greatest passion and dreams, outside of teaching, involve writing. In 2013, I published a book, The Rag Doll. In my free time I continue to write. I love teaching in general but I am most excited about teaching writing. As it is our last form of communication, I feel fourth grade is the perfect stage to encourage writing and help them find their voice in written form.
I am looking forward to working with you throughout this upcoming school year.
