Student Access

  •  Johnston County Public Libraries and Johnston County Public Schools have partnered to expand students’ access to educational resources through a new program known as StudentAccess.

Beginning immediately, Johnston County Public School students will be able to use their Student ID number as a library card. In addition to accessing electronic resources and library databases, students may also borrow up to 10 print or audiobooks from the public libraries located in Benson, Four Oaks, Kenly, Princeton, Selma, or Smithfield.

To access their account, students use their Student/PowerSchool number as their username to login. The Student/PowerSchool number is located at the top of the student's report card.  The PIN is the last four digits of the Student/PowerSchool number. Parents may stop by the school to find out their child's Student/PowerSchool Number from the Data Manager, Anita Frazier.  The site to visit for ebooks is nckids.overdrive.com  Students can also download the app for android and apple devices by searching "Libby" in the app store.

Battle of the Books Information

  • Please consider joining the most awesome group at Micro Elementary! Students in 4th and 5th grade are welcome to join! Students are expected to read at LEAST 10 of the books on the list. We have practices weekly and attend a competition usually in March. During practices we will discuss the books they have read. Students are also expected to make at least 80% on short quizzes about the books they read. As they finish reading books, students work on gaining points by answering questions about the books. It promotes friendly competition with each other. :)

The Battle of the books team will meet every Wednesday from 8:00 - 8:45 in the Media Center beginning in mid September 18th.  This is subject to change pending the school schedule for 2019-2020. Students will be given a bookmark of the list of titles and authors that they should begin memorizing.  There are 15 books on the list this year.  The competition is usually in March.

Understand that I can only take 12 students to the competition.  At our practices students will be taking comprehension tests as they finish the books.  They receive points for their results.  To be fair, the top 12 students will be the ones that go to the competition.  Alternates will be named if a student is unable to go.  If a student is having difficulty with behavior in the classroom or at practices, I will speak with the parent and adminstration about the possibility of them being removed from the team.

The list of books can be accessed by clicking on THIS link.  Try to get a head start over the summer!
