Mr. Gary L. Howard
Hello students, parents and friends of Smithfield Selma High School, my name is Mr. Gary L. Howard and I am delighted to be a part of the Johnston County educational system as an English teacher at Smithfield Selma High School. I am relatively new to teaching in North Carolina, but not new to the teaching profession. After teaching English full-time at West Virgina State University in Institute West Virginia for three years and three years as an adjunct at Shawnee University in Portsmouth, Ohio I moved to Columbus, Ohio and taught high school English at Westerville South High School for twenty one years. I also taught English at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio and Business English for Tri-State Business College in Huntington, WV.
My educational background includes a BSed in English Education from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, an M.A. in Secondary Education and English from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia and an additional 30 graduate hours in English from Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, California.
I have enjoyed teaching at SSS High School this year and look forward to coming back in the Fall for another fun filled year. I want to wish all of my students this year a safe and fun Summer break, I hope you come back rested and refreshed for next year.
